Update : Tinubu and Obasanjo met in Imo, State, after the 2023 elections, says Onanuga

President Bola Tinubu on Monday, January 15, met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo at the inauguration of Hope Uzodinma as the governor of Imo for his second term in office.
The ceremony took place at the Dan Anyiam stadium in Owerri, the state capital.

Tinubu and Obasanjo were invited to the ceremony by Uzodinma.

During the ceremony, the duo exchanged pleasantries and shook hands.

This was first time Tinubu and Obasanjo will be meeting after the 2023 elections.

In August 2022, Tinubu, then presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), met with Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.

The agenda of the meeting was unclear but it was speculated that it could be about the presidential bid of Tinubu.

Obasanjo did not support the presidential bid of Tinubu. The former president supported Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party (LP).

In 2019, Tinubu asked Obasanjo to retire to his farm in Ota, Ogun state.

Reacting to the picture on Monday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, to President Tinubu said: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former President Olusegun Obasanjo met today in Owerri, Imo state at the swearing-in of Governor Hope Uzodimma for his second term.

“The two leaders have not met since Tinubu visited Obasanjo in Abeokuta on 17 August 2022 during the presidential campaign. What could be going through the minds of the two leaders as they shook hands?”
