Alleged $200,000 Offers : Court adjourns ex-Lagos AG Shasore’s trial till June 20

The trial of former Lagos Attorney-General (AG) Olasupo Shasore (SAN) suffered a setback yesterday at an Ikeja Special Offences Court, due to disagreement over services of documents from prosecution to defence.
Shasore is facing charges of alleged $200,000 corrupt offers at a Lagos State Special Offences Court before Justice Mojisola Dada.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on October 21 last year, arraigned the former Attorney-General on a two-count charge bordering on corrupt offers.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

At the resumed proceedings yesterday, Shahore’s counsel, Muiz Banire (SAN), told the court that the prosecutor was yet to oblige them with the documents they asked for at the last adjourned date.

He said the defence would need those documents to challenge the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the charges.

Responding, EFCC counsel, Bala Sanga, told the court that they had served the defence with the document requested.

He showed the court the proof of service.

The judge, however, confirmed that the proof of service was not in the court file.

She advised the prosecutor to file an affidavit of service.

During the last proceedings, the lead defence counsel, Chijioke Okoli (SAN), sought adjournment of the case, pending the sorting out of the issue of the disputed documents.

Okoli told the court that the defence had filed an application dated December 2, to seek an adjournment.

He argued that there was need for adjournment because defence needed more documents from the prosecution to defend their case

Justice Dada adjourned the matter till June 20.
