Borno State Governor, Prof. Zulum orders renovation of police children’s schools, offers lands to police wives

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has over the weekend, ordered the renovation of primary schools being attended by children of Police personnel.

Zulum also directed the allocation of land to Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), for the establishment of a skills acquisition centre that will train widows and orphans of deceased Police personnel.

The Governor gave both directives on Saturday while receiving the wife of the Inspector General of Police, who is POWA’s President, Hajiya Hajara Usman Baba Alkali at the Government House in Maiduguri.

The IGP’s wife had during her remarks, informed Governor Zulum about deplorable conditions of Police primary schools in Maiduguri, seeking the Governor’s intervention.

She also requested the allocation of land to POWA for the establishment of a skills acquisition centre through which the association plans to train widows and orphans of policemen, who have passed on.

Zulum in his response promptly gave directives for rehabilitation works that will be carried out after needs evaluation.

The Governor also directed the Borno State Geographic information services (BOGIS), to immediately identify and allocate suitable land to POWA.

The IGP’s wife, who hails from Borno State, commended Zulum on his laudable efforts towards the restoration of peace and progressive development.

“Borno is the first northern State we are visiting after Lagos, Rivers, and Ogun States. We are here because of the way you carry everybody along. you are not discriminating any form of a human being” Mrs Alkali said.

She also commended Zulum’s humanitarian services to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and to families of security personnel that have lost their lives in the line of duty.

Zulum praises Borno’s, Police Force

Meanwhile, Governor Zulum, while hosting the IGP’s wife on Saturday, paid tribute to Borno State Police Command in respecting the rights of citizens.

“The Nigerian Police are doing very well in Borno State. When the cases of Police brutality in communities in Nigeria was raised, Borno State was the first state to publicly acknowledge contributions of the Nigerian Police towards respecting citizens’ rights while safeguarding lives and property. In fact, the Borno State House of Assembly even passed a vote of confidence on the Nigerian Police, for the good works they are doing” Zulum declared.

The Governor thanked the Police for their sacrifices, noting that the Police has played and still playing significant roles in Borno’s growing stability and restoration of civil authorities, particularly in Local Government Areas.

The Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has passed away at the age of 91.

The respected monarch reportedly died on Sunday, just hours after the announcement of the death of his longtime friend and former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

Mourning his passage, a prince of Ijebu, Prince Adedoyin Alatishe wrote on X, “Baami Ogbagba agbatewole ,  Erin wo. Omo anikilaya saagbu.”

Adetona, who ascended the throne in 1960, was one of Nigeria’s longest-reigning traditional rulers and widely revered for his contributions to the sociopolitical development of Ijebuland and Ogun State at large.

Breaking : Tinubu returns to Abuja tonight after diplomatic visits to Saint Lucia, Brazil,Says Onanuga

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to arrive Abuja later tonight following a two-nation diplomatic tour that took him to Saint Lucia in the Caribbean and Brazil in South America.

His return was confirmed in a message posted on Saturday afternoon by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, on his verified X handle, @aonanuga1956.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu returns to Abuja today after his two-nation visit to Saint Lucia and Brazil,” the presidential aide stated.

The President departed Nigeria on Saturday, June 28 for what was described as a strategic outreach aimed at strengthening ties with regions historically under-engaged in Nigeria’s diplomatic matrix.

His first stop was Saint Lucia, where he made a historic visit to build new ties and explore emerging partnerships with Caribbean states.

While in Saint Lucia, Tinubu interacted with regional leaders under the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), reinforcing Nigeria’s growing interest in Caribbean diplomacy and South-South cooperation.

He subsequently proceeded to Brazil to participate in the 17th BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Tinubu held a bilateral meeting with his Brazilian counterpart, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The leaders co-chaired the Nigeria-Brazil high-level bilateral meeting , where they discussed mechanisms to boost trade, infrastructure financing, and cultural cooperation between Africa’s most populous country and Latin America’s largest economy.

With the President’s return, focus is expected to shift to domestic engagements and follow-up actions on the diplomatic and investment commitments made during his foreign tour.
